Staithes doesn’t stop for rain. Neither should you.

Pack the waterproofs anyway

This is the North Yorkshire coast, not the Mediterranean. A wet day here isn’t a wasted one, it’s just a different one.

Fire on first

Heart Stone Cottage has a log burner, and mornings like this are exactly what it’s for. Get it going, make a brew, and let the weather do its thing outside the window for a while. Holidays don’t have to start before 10am.

Walk it anyway

A bit of rain off the sea doesn’t bother the locals, and it won’t bother you either with the right coat on. The harbour looks just as good wet, arguably better, with the light off the cobbles. Pubs and cafes are a walk away if you need to dry out and warm up partway round.

Watch the boats come in

Staithes is still a working harbour. Rain or not, there’s usually something happening down by the water, worth ten minutes with a coffee, whatever the forecast.

Or do nothing at all

Smart TV, hot shower, dry clothes out of the wash. Sometimes the best plan for a rainy day is no plan. You’re allowed.

Save the big walk for tomorrow

If the rain really sets in, leave the Cleveland Way for a clearer day. It isn’t going anywhere, and it’s better enjoyed dry.

Whatever the forecast does, the Cleveland Way starts right outside the door, and so does the kettle. Check dates and book direct for your stay at Heart Stone Cottage.
